We Locked at 2.375%!!!

We officially locked our interest rate at 2.375%! It is crazy how low interest rates are. That was with a 90 day lock, which didn't cost us anything, so we should be more than fine if the house takes longer than we planned. That rate is for a 15 year loan with 0.5 point. Normally I'm not a fan of buying points, because we move too frequently to make them worthwhile, but his relocation company paid for it, so yay!

More updates to come on our house. They are installing drywall and siding this week. It is finally starting to look like a house!

  1. WOW!! THIS IS A SUPER SUPER SUPER SCORE!! Do you mean you locked your interest rate 90 days before hand? Or 90 days after your 60 days started?

    1. We locked today, and have 90 days from today to close on our house in order to keep that rate. Usually it is 60 days, and if you want a longer locking period you can buy it. For whatever reason they are just giving that rate for the 90 day lock as standard.

    2. Wow, that is so awesome! I learned something new everyday on these blogs. I will check with the loan officer to see if they offer the same opportunity in Maryland.

  2. I did not realize that the 15 year loans had gone down into the low 2's. We locked at 3.375% on a 30 year loan.

    1. That's amazing! It's strange to think that there was a time when rates were in the upper teens or lower 20s.

  4. I just found your blog! We are building a Rome in Massey, and we hope we can get a rate like that on our 15. How did you ask for it?

    1. Well Hi! We really loved Massey too, especially the pool! In the end, Rosemont ended up being a little closer to where my husband worked, but you choose a really beautiful community. We just watched interest rates (just in general), and we just locked on a low day I guess. We did buy 1/2 a point, otherwise I believe it would have been 2.5 or 2.75. I haven't checked for awhile to see what they are at now, but I can't imagine that they have changed too much.

  5. That is a fantastic rate! Congratulations! Pretty soon you'll be in your new house forgetting all about locking in rates and multiple meetings.

  6. Hello - Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Kim and found your blog. We are also living in the Rosemont community (new section of the neighbhorhood). Just signed the purchase agreement yesterday and are targeting a delayed build to get us in at the end of June. I know you haven't updated this in a while (I remember life with a newborn - my son is 15 months old) but just wanted to say hi and maybe we will run into one another sometime! I live over right near 521 right now (so only about a mile away).

  7. Hi, I'm curious how the whole process turned out for you? Do you have any pictures of the house? Did you move in? How did your 30 day inspection go? Curious...

  8. Hi, I'm currently living in an apt in Ballantyne and considering this community sometime next year after we have our baby. It's not too far from where we are now, how do you like the community? Where do you do your grocery shopping at there?
